My Geeky Grand Design
I’ve always been interested in smart homes and how our future houses will integrate future and emerging technologies. It’s only a matter of time before every electrical (and maybe non-electrical) appliance is managed centrally from one system. I foresee a control panel on the fridge which will control everything from heating to stereo volume, which will be played by speakers embedded throughout the house. You’ll also have the option to control what plays in each room individually. I think that picture frames will change automatically, possibly being fed by a Flickr feed. You will also be able to “log in” to your house remotely so you can turn the heat on from your iPhone when you’re ten minutes away. The Study and bedrooms will each have a node terminal, connected to the central server which in turn will feed up to The Cloud. This will mean that is data is backed up so should your central server implode, you won’t be left sitting in a hollow shell, unable to do anything but try and make fire with a couple of table legs.
It also seems that these idea’s aren’t just in my head and some people are much smarter than me and can actually implement them..
